Software engineer, learning in the open.
I grew up in Vancouver, Canada, where I learned early to appreciate the place I lived. Whether skiing up at Whistler or boating in Howe Sound, I always loved getting outdoors and taking in the scenery. These days I am based in London, England.
I found my passion for math and science at Rockridge Secondary, and it pulled me toward engineering. My first taste of software came in an introductory C course at the University of Victoria, and I fell for programming immediately, often finding it hard to step away from the keyboard. That led me to transfer into Engineering Physics at the University of British Columbia, where technical electives gradually narrowed my focus and set me on software engineering for good.
Since 2022 I have been a systems developer at Connor Clark & Lunn Financial Group, an investment management firm, working out of the London office. I build the data infrastructure behind the business: high-volume ETL from market data vendors, KDB and .NET services for financial data, and internal tooling that operations and research teams depend on. More recently I led the adoption of Python and Prefect across my team and then the wider department, and built Prefectfg, an internal platform that turns open-source Prefect into a multi-tenant, self-hosted orchestration system with single sign-on, role-based access, and disaster recovery.
Working at an asset manager put quantitative research right in front of me, and it has become what I tinker with outside of work. It sits where I like to be, at the meeting point of math, markets, and code. In my free time I research signals, backtest ideas, and build the tooling to test them honestly. I am an aspiring quant rather than a professional one, and this site is where I learn in the open.
